Race Information

Time: This year we are running two races, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (Start times: 10.30am and 12:15pm).

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand. Typically in Adventure races very little information is given about the course location until the day prior to the event. But we understand that planning family activities can be challenging, so we thought we should let you know – it will be based out of Roto Kohatu Reserve, Sawyers Arms Road, Harewood.

Schedule: Saturday 7 November 2020. 

Race Packs: This year race packs need to be collected in advance. You will receive details the week prior to the race.

Competitors will start in waves approx every 10 mins following the briefing. There will not be a group prizegiving this year (due to COVID changes).
[NOTE: Kayaks, Paddles and Buoyancy Aids will be provided for use during the race]

Kayak Safety Sessions: There will be optional kayak safety sessions available to book in the weeks leading up to the race.  You will be sent the link when you register.

Race Length: We anticipate the race being around 40 minutes long.  Depending on the athletic and teamwork abilities of the children in the team, it may take from 20 to 90 minutes. The tracks are all a bit rugged so distances may take longer than they would on a path/road.
The course changes a bit each year, but typical distances are:
Short Course: Kayak 50m each, Run ~1.5km, Cycle ~2km
Long Course: Kayak 200m each, Run ~2.5km, Cycle ~4km
We recommend that teams with a combined team age of 15 and under do the short course or a combined age of 16 and over do the long course. But you know your kids best, so you can let us know if you want them on the opposite length course.

Waiver: Each parent/legal guardian will need to sign (hard copy) waivers during the check in procedure, in order to receive the race number.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations received 8 weeks or more prior to the race will receive a refund minus a $10 per person administration fee. Any cancellations received after that date will not receive a refund as race commitment purchases will have been made. Race entries are transferable but subject to a change fee of $10 per team within 10 days of the race.
[Note: As this race was due to run on 21 March 2020, all entries bought prior to this date have the 8 week cancellation applied to the 21 March 2020. We have allowed entries to rollover at no cost to the November date, but they have not been given a new expiry/cancellation date].

Weather Policy: The race will take place rain or shine. Some of our most memorable activities are in the rain! If it rains we may adjust/shorten the course. We will only cancel the race if it is unsafe or if there is a severe weather warning according to Metservice. We will notify by email and Facebook of any cancellation.
The race may get postponed in extreme circumstances if another date is available.

Cancellation: As is industry standard, we are unable to provide refunds due to unforeseen date changes or if the race is cancelled due to weather, terrorism or any other government directive.
